How to play in four steps
If you have ever played the card game Memory (also called Concentration or Pairs), you already know it — only the cards are mahjong tiles.
-
Somewhere in here…1Tiles face down
Each game deals pairs of mahjong tiles face down in a grid. Every tile has exactly one twin.
-
Not a match. Remember them!2Flip two
Tap a tile, then another. If they are different, look carefully — they flip back on your next tap.
-
Got it!3Find the pair
Two identical tiles stay face up. Use what you saw earlier to find twins in fewer flips.
-
Again tomorrow?4Clear the board
When every pair is found you see your flips and time. Fewer flips is better; time only breaks ties.
Pick a board
Start with the daily board, or choose a size for free play. Phones in portrait fit every size.
Daily board The same 6 × 6 board for everyone today. One official result per day; share it like a word puzzle.Learn mode works on every board: switch it on in the lobby and each flipped tile shows its name in your language.
The rules in short
- All tiles start face down. Each kind of tile appears exactly twice.
- On each turn flip two tiles. Identical tiles stay face up as a found pair.
- Different tiles turn back face down before your next flip — try to remember them.
- The game ends when every pair is found. Your score is the number of flips; fewer is better.
- If two results have the same number of flips, the faster time wins.
The tiles you will meet
Boards use the 34 standard mahjong tiles: three suits numbered 1 to 9 (Characters, Dots and Bamboo), four Winds and three Dragons. Playing a few games is an easy way to learn to recognise them.

Frequently asked questions
Is Mahjong Memory free?
Yes. It is completely free, runs in your browser and needs no download or sign-up. There is no money involved anywhere in the game.
Do I need to know how to play mahjong?
No. You only need to spot two identical tiles. If you want to learn the tile names along the way, switch on learn mode.
How is the score counted?
Every tile you turn over counts as one flip. Clearing the board with fewer flips is better; when two players have the same number of flips, the faster time is better.
What is the daily board?
Every day at 00:00 UTC a new board is dealt, and it is the same for everyone in the world. Your first finish of the day is your daily result, which you can share.
Where are my results saved?
Only in your browser on this device. Clearing your browser data clears them, and nothing is sent to a server.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Every board size fits a phone held upright, and on a computer the board turns sideways to fit the screen.
